Edit to the invite: VLD judge information is due by Monday January 18th at 9:00 PM. Columbia will be using a system of Mutually Preferred Judging.  You may enter your rating preferences online on tabroom.com starting at noon on Tuesday January 19th. MPJ ratings must be entered by 9:00 PM on Thursday, January 21st if you wish to participate in MPJ judge ratings.  MPJ ratings will also include a number of strikes depending on the size of the judging field.Students in their junior or senior years of debating may judge the Novice division. You may not cover IE, PF or VLD entries with student novice-only judges.

The first elim break in Speech events has been posted.  Please note the starting times:  Extemp Draw at 8:45, Quarters in Ext, DP and OI at 9:15,  Semifinals for OO and Declamation at 11:00, and all other semifinals at 11:30.

Judges have been posted.  Hired judges are expected to come on standby.  Remember that judges are obligated one round past their students, and the penalty for failing to appear in time for your round is $50 in elimination rounds.

Speech Elim Postings

Leon Panetta, a former Chief of Staff under Bill Clinton, was nominated Director of the CIA by President Obama.  He has no direct experience in the intelligence establishment, though he was part of the CIA briefings President Clinton received on a daily basis.

You are the Senate Intelligence Committee, tasked with passing on a recommendation to the full Senate on whether or not to confirm Mr Panetta as Director of CIA.

The following teams advance to the Partial Doubles round in Public Forum Debate.  The round begins at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning. Ballots and pairings will be released at Lerner at 7:30 tomorrow morning. ALL JUDGES IN NOVICE LD ARE OBLIGATED TO JUDGE THIS ROUND WHETHER OR NOT STUDENTS HAVE ADVANCED.
