Directions and Parking
The Columbia Morningside campus is located at Broadway and 116th Street Manhattan.
By Car from the North
Take the New York Thruway (I-87) or the New England Thruway (I-95) south to the Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95) in the direction of the George Washington Bridge. Take the exit for the Henry Hudson Parkway south (the last exit before the bridge). Exit the Parkway at West 95th Street and Riverside Drive and follow the directions for parking below.
By Car from South or West
Take the New Jersey Turnpike north or I-80 east to the George Washington Bridge. As you cross the bridge, take the exit for the Henry Hudson Parkway south. Exit the Parkway at West 95th Street and Riverside Drive and follow the directions for parking below.
By Car from the New York Airports/Long Island
LaGuardia: Take the Grand Central Parkway east to the Whitestone Parkway (I-678). Follow it across the Whitestone Bridge and onto I-95 south. Follow By Car from the North.
Kennedy: Take the Van Wyck Expressway (I- 678) to the Whitestone Bridge and across. Get onto I-95 south and follow the directions above under By Car from the North.
Newark: Follow directions under By Car from the South or West. In any case, follow the directions for parking below.
By Train or Bus
Trains to New York arrive at Grand Central Station or Pennsylvania Station, while buses stop at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, where a visitor can take either public transportation or a taxi north to the campus. From Penn Station, the best public transportation is to take the 1/9 subway train uptown to 116th Street/Columbia University. From Grand Central, the best option is the S subway train across town to 42nd Street/Times Square and then the 1/9 subway train up to 116th Street/Columbia University.
By Air
For visitors coming into LaGuardia, Kennedy, or Newark airports, taxi service is available to the campus (about $20 from LaGuardia, at least $40 from Kennedy & Newark), and there is bus service to Grand Central Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Public Transportation is available from all three airports to Manhattan. From LaGuardia, the M60 bus will take you to Columbia’s campus. You can take the A subway train from JFK to Manhattan and New Jersey Transit from Newark to Pennsylvania Station.
By New York City Public Transportation
Five bus lines (M4, M5, M11, M60, M104) and one subway line (the Nos. 1/9 local) serve the Columbia neighborhood. The M60 bus is a direct link between campus and LaGuardia Airport. The Columbia stop is 116th Street. Do not use subway express trains Nos. 2 and 3, which follow a different route and do not stop at Columbia University; if you do, be certain to transfer at 96th Street to the Nos. 1/9 local.
Parking
Due to logistical problems we are unable to have an official agreement with the local parking vendors. However, we are able to recommend the following garage locations. (Note: these garages are not capable of holding buses)
- The 512-520 Parking Garage is located at the corner of 112th and Amsterdam.
- The Riverside Church Parking Garage on 120th street between Claremont and Riverside Drive.
For the best information on parking check-out Columbia’s recommendations for parking: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/reshalls/confpage/parking.html
After getting off at 95th Street, take a left and drive uptown on Riverside Drive. Take a right onto 114th Street. There is a garage near the corner of 114th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. There is also a garage on 120th Street between Riverside and Claremont Avenues. To get there, take a right onto 120th as opposed to 114th Street. You can also attempt to find street parking. We suggest checking out Morningside & Riverside Drives. Riverside Drive north of 120th Street (near Grant’s Tomb) often has spaces available.
Registration is in the Lerner Hall Box Office. Lerner is located at the corner of 115th Street and Broadway. The Box Office is adjacent to the campus side entrance to the building. If you’re lost on campus, Lerner’s facade features the largest glass wall in North America.
